Heat Soaking

Enhancing Safety with Heat Soaking

Safety is paramount. We understand the importance of ensuring that our glass products meet the highest standards of quality and reliability. That’s why we’ve implemented state-of-the-art Heat Soaking processes to mitigate the risk of spontaneous breakage in tempered glass.

Understanding Spontaneous Breakage: The tempering process significantly increases the strength of glass, making it more resistant to breakage. However, certain defects, such as nickel sulfide (NiS) inclusions, can pose a potential risk. These inclusions, which may originate from nickel-rich contaminants like stainless steel, have the potential to cause spontaneous breakage in tempered glass over time.

The Role of Heat Soaking: To address the risk of spontaneous breakage, FGS Glass employs a rigorous Heat Soak process following the tempering phase. This process involves heating the glass to approximately 290°C for a minimum of 2 hours, followed by slow cooling. During this time, any nickel sulfide inclusions undergo a transformation, reverting to their original form and stabilizing the glass.

Benefits of Heat Soaking:

  • Risk Mitigation: By subjecting tempered glass to the Heat Soak process, we minimize the risk of spontaneous breakage, enhancing safety for end-users.
  • Compliance with Standards: Our Heat Soak process adheres to the draft of European Standard EN 14179, ensuring that our glass products meet stringent quality requirements.
  • Preservation of Glass Properties: Despite the intense heating and cooling involved in Heat Soaking, the process does not affect the properties of the glass, maintaining its strength and integrity.

FGS Glass is committed to delivering glass products of the highest quality and safety standards. With our advanced Heat Soaking processes, we provide peace of mind to our customers, knowing that our tempered glass products undergo thorough testing to mitigate the risk of spontaneous breakage.
